MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif.-InterWave Communications Inc. said it has launched what it calls the world’s first Internet Protocol-based cellular infrastructure network that uses CDMA2000 technology.
The product, which is called Wave2000, transmits voice and data.
“With its local switching capability in the combined base station and base station controller combined with the all-IP long-distance back haul, the Wave2000 is an ideal low-cost network for seamless extension of existing public cellular networks and for local rural communities where long-distance back-haul costs otherwise become prohibitively expensive,” said Lars Lindell, vice president and general manager for InterWave’s CDMA business unit.
