AT&T Wireless Services Inc. and Microsoft Corp. have partnered to offer Windows Mobile Start Service to AT&T Wireless customers with Motorola MPx200 phones.
The Microsoft Web service allows AT&T Wireless customers to access an AT&T Wireless Web site to configure their phones for personal and work e-mail, mobile-optimized Web sites, free ring tones, home screens and applications such as games. The selections, made on the Web, are automatically sent to phones over the air.
“The Windows Mobile Start Service offers a fast and easy way for AT&T Wireless customers to start enjoying terrific new services and capabilities on the Windows Mobile software platform,” said Vince Mendillo, director of the mobile devices division at Microsoft. “By combining an innovative and convenient over-the-air setup with a familiar Web-based interface, customers can be more self-sufficient and minimize the need for placing support calls.”
To take advantage of the new service, customers with Motorola MPx200 phones are instructed to visit http://www.attwireless.com/smartphoneand click on “Customize It.”
More operators are offering over-the-air services to help jump-start mobile data use.
