PLYMOUTH MEETING, Pa.-Wireless content and technology company SmartServ Online Inc. announced it plans to purchase wireless e-mail company Mobile Airwaves Inc. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
“The acquisition of Mobile Airwaves and its Aqivo e-mail enabling software technology will be a critical building block in SmartServ’s emerging product strategy,” said Robert Pons, the company’s interim chief executive officer. “The addition of Aqivo to our own content assets will allow us to address the rapidly expanding market of individual cell-phone users who want to access their existing e-mail accounts from their wireless devices.”
SmartServ said the Aqivo server works with most wireless devices. Mobile Airwaves has deals with industry leaders including BEA, Certicom and AT&T Wireless Services Inc.
Consolidation on the wireless e-mail and enterprise front has been continuing at a steady pace since the beginning of the year.
