RIM ups size of planned public offering

WATERLOO, Ontario-Fresh from its stellar third-quarter earnings report, Research In Motion Ltd. upped the size of its planned public offering to a total the company expects will generate almost $800 million. The news sent the company stock to its highest level in three years.

RIM’s stock topped out at $81.79 following its announcement that it would increase the size of its previously announced public offering to 10.5 million common shares. The BlackBerry maker said its common shares will be sold in the United States and Canada at $78.25 per share, and it expects total proceeds of $788 million. RIM said the offering is expected to close Jan. 21.
