THE HAAG, The Netherlands-Dutch operator KPN said it took full control of Wi-Fi provider HubHop. KPN acquired 51 percent of the company, which offers hot spots in the Netherlands, last May and has now purchased the remaining 49 percent for an undisclosed amount.
KPN will market the HubHop hot spots under the name KPN HotSpots. At end-2003, there were more than 100 hot spots in public areas in the Netherlands, and KPN intends to expand that number to 650 locations this year.
KPN said a trial is under way in which its GPRS service is being offered in a package with hot-spot access.
