Nextel to launch NASCAR ad campaign Sunday

RESTON, Va.-Nextel Communications Inc. said it will launch its NASCAR Nextel Cup Series advertising campaign beginning Jan. 18 with the first phase introducing the wireless carrier to NASCAR fans. Nextel announced last year that it was replacing long-time NASCAR sponsor RJ Reynolds’ Winston as the main sponsor for the racing series.

Nextel said the campaign will begin airing during the National Football League’s AFC Championship game on CBS and continue on NBC prime time and late-night television, as well as TNT and Speed Channel, through NASCAR’s season-opening race in Daytona, Fla., Feb. 15.
