Magic4 offers walkie-talkie messaging client

WARRINGTON, United Kingdom-Messaging software company Magic4 said it will jump into the push-to-talk game with its new Push To Talk over Cellular (PoC) messaging client.

The company said its new messaging client is based on the Session Initiation Protocol industry standard and will allow users to conduct walkie-talkie-style discussions, as well as send pictures and instant messages.

“Take up of PoC in Europe is accelerating at a fast rate with many operators and suppliers announcing trials and products. Operators consider PoC to be a sizeable commercial opportunity for the attraction of new customers and the stimulation of new data services,” said Simon Wilkinson, Magic4’s chief executive officer. “This extension to our messaging portfolio offers handset manufacturers and platform vendors a fast-route, low-risk opportunity to enter and compete in the strategic markets of PoC and voice messaging, as well as providing a compelling addition to their messaging roadmap.”

Magic4 offers a variety of software to mobile-phone makers, including multimedia messaging services software and e-mail client software. The company’s PTT announcement comes after major PTT commitments from handset makers Siemens AG and Nokia Corp.
