SMC .11g chips to use Globespan Virata technology

IRVINE, Calif.-SMC Networks said it will upgrade its 802.11g chips with multimedia-enhancing technology from Globespan Virata. The SMC g products include its router and adapters.

Globespan’s product is known as Prism Nitro XM Xtreme. “PRISM Nitro XM puts SMC’s wireless ‘G’ products on top in terms of speed, throughput and flexibility,” said Tony Stramandinoli, SMC’s chief technical officer. “Capable of handling the most demanding applications-including multimedia streaming, gaming and video-conferencing-this technology makes our 802.11g products even more powerful solutions for homes and small-to-medium-sized businesses.”
