Verizon, others announce content deals

BEDMINSTER, N.J.-Activity continues in the wireless content and application market, with Verizon Wireless, Twentieth Century Fox and others making new announcements.

Verizon Wireless announced new Get It Now applications from Dwango Wireless and Vindigo Studios, further fleshing out its BREW application download service. Dwango’s new AquaX game, selling for $3.25 for unlimited use, will allow players to race personal watercrafts through six locations. For its part, Vindigo said it will sell its CelebrityNow! Hollywood information service for $4 per month and its ReplaySports international sports service for $3.50 per month.

Separately, gaming company Sorrent announced it scored a deal with Twentieth Century Fox’s Wireless Entertainment Group to offer a first-person shooting game based on the media giant’s “Aliens” movies. The game marks Sorrent’s first non-sports game.

Finally, Blue Lava Wireless offered hope for the nation’s content players with news that its Tetris game has been downloaded more than 1 million times since it was launched six months ago.
