CANNES, France-Siemens AG said it has developed a new standards-based mobile network architecture that simplifies and enhances performance as well as reduces cost.
The vendor claims to be the first to develop a comprehensive system that conforms to the Advanced Telecom Computing Architecture, Carrier Grade Linux and Service Availability Forum’s application interface specifications.
“We will bring the first network applications based on the new architecture to market in about two years,” said Christoph Caselitz, president of Networks within Siemens Mobile. “Siemens will ensure that existing mobile networks can be transferred in stages into infrastructures based on the next-generation Telecom Architecture.”
The system will use a hardware platform based on Intel processors, said Siemens.
The AdvancedTCA came into being in 2002 under the auspices of the PCI Industrial Computer Manufacturers Group made up of more than 100 companies in the IT and telecom industries. This announcements also underlines the rising profile of Linux in the wireless world.
Furthering its infrastructure program, Siemens also entered a collaboration with Cisco Systems Inc. to develop and deliver multimedia data applications for mobile operators around the world and enabling them implement IP-based services.
