CANNES, France-Lucent Technologies Inc. and Novatel Wireless, Inc. announced that Telefonica Moviles Espana is offering the Merlin U53 Universal Mobile Telecommunications System Wireless PC Card Modem-jointly developed by Lucent and Novatel Wireless-to customers on its third-generation UMTS network in Spain.
The cards will enable TME to offer customers enhanced services-such as high-quality streaming video and audio, secure mobile access to e-mail with large attachments and other productivity-enhancing applications geared toward enterprise customers-at speeds of up to 384 kilobits per second.
The two companies are supplying TME with the Merlin U530 cards, system software and services to support its commercial 3G service rollout, which began last week. The Merlin U530 will provide users with mobile connections to TME’s UMTS network.
