ATLANTA-BellSouth Corp. is days away from announcing a $6 billion sale of its Latin American operations to Spanish-based telecommunications provider Telefonica, according to a Reuters report citing sources close to the talks.
The source noted the deal would likely be announced early next week, though neither Telefonica or BellSouth would comment. BellSouth acknowledged earlier this week that it was in talks about a possible sale of its Latin American properties, which serve more than 10 million customers in 10 countries, but said a sale was not necessary to fund subsidiary Cingular Wireless L.L.C.’s recent acquisition of AT&T Wireless Services Inc.
