ATLANTA-Siemens Mobile said it placed an Internet-Protocol-based Multimedia Subsystem call on a live GSM network in the United States.
The call was made using Siemens’ IMS@vantage technology, which delivers instant messaging, interactive gaming, friend list/network presence detection, video telephony, push-to-talk over cellular and other multimedia services.
In other news, Siemens introduced three new handsets.
The CF62 clamshell phone is the company’s first flip phone for the North American market. It operates on GSM 900/1800/1900 MHz frequencies. The phone includes a loop antenna and programmable lights around the edges.
The CX66 phone includes an integrated video camera, 3D gaming, joystick menu navigation and up to 11 MB of shared memory to store multimedia content. The phone operates in the GSM 850/1800/1900 MHz bands and is expected to be available in the third quarter.
Finally, the C66 phone includes photo, messaging and gaming capabilities more common on higher end phones, according to the company. The handset also operates in the GSM 850/1800/1900 MHz bands.
