SANTA CLARA, Calif.-Alcatel Alsthom said it has entered into a strategic alliance with Intel Corp. to define, standardize, develop, integrate and market WiMAX technology.
The alliance hopes to deliver solutions by the second half of next year.
The companies said they will target both urban and rural areas in emerging and developed markets.
“It offers either broadband access where DSL cannot reach customers for technical or economical reasons, a last-mile alternative for competitive operators with a combined voice and broadband access offer, or nomadic access complementary to GSM/EDGE, Wi-Fi and 3G,” said both companies.
