TEMPE, Ariz.-In spite of price declines, wireless local area networks chip market witnessed a 176-percent growth in 2003 with Broadcom Inc. as the big winner in revenues, according to a study released by Forward Concepts.
The report said prices fell 40 percent last year, and this might drive some players out of the space.
“The study projects that overall WLAN chip revenues will continue to grow at a 38-percent compound annual rate to the $2.2 billion level in 2007,” said the report, titled WLAN for Enterprise and The Multimedia Home.
The other winners in this market include Atheros, Intersil, Texas Instruments and Agere Systems, according to the report.
