AT&T Wireless keeps Convergys until merger closes

Following a request to determine possible alternatives, AT&T Wireless Services Inc. said it would continue its billing and customer care relationship with Convergys Corp. for all of its subscribers under an agreement that expires at the end of 2008.

“As a result of the formal [request for information] we issued last year, we looked at comprehensive billing and customer care systems available from several vendors in this competitive space and have decided to stay with Convergys,” said Michael Keith, president of mobility operations at AWS.

AWS added that following the closing of its proposed acquisition by Cingular Wireless L.L.C., Cingular would have the right to modify the agreement with Convergys subject to certain terms and conditions.

“AT&T Wireless has been a valued Convergys billing and customer care, customer management and employee care client for many years and the decision we are announcing today strengthens our mutually beneficial business relationship,” said Jim Orr, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Convergys.
