IDT to deploy Wi-Fi service using VoIP platform

NEWARK, N.J.-IDT Corp. said it will deploy commercial Wi-Fi phone service in the United States using its own network and infrastructure and Net2Phone’s voice-over-Internet Protocol platform for routing calls.

The service will initially be rolled out in the Ironbound section of Newark, N.J., within 30 to 60 days, providing IDT research to assist in the development of the service for other areas.

“IDT is opening up the next frontier in telecommunication,” said Howard Jonas, chairman of IDT. “By combining Wi-Fi wireless technology with IDT’s global telecommunications network and retail distribution, Net2Phone’s VoIP platform and the fixed wireless infrastructure of IDT Business Services (Winstar), IDT is providing residential consumers with a more affordable and flexible phone service.”
