Novatel reports $7M in new UMTS orders

SAN DIEGO-Novatel Wireless Inc., which provides wireless broadband access solutions, said it received more than $7 million in new orders from existing customers.

The orders are for the company’s Merlin U530 wireless PC card modems to be delivered this year. Seven operators, including Hutchison’s 3, E-Plus, MmO2, Telecom Italia Mobile, Telefonica Moviles Espana and T-Mobile, have chosen the Merlin U530 for their third-generation UMTS networks.

In other news, Novatel announced a development trial of a UMTS wireless PC card modem for the 1900 MHz band in North America.
