OVERLAND PARK, Kan.-Sprint announced it will sell the new LG Electronics Co. Ltd. VI-5225 clamshell phone for $50 after rebates.

The companies describe the phone as the “little black dress” of devices due to its small, sleek shape. The phone features a color screen and support for wireless Internet and text messaging applications.

The move is especially notable for LG, as the upstart handset maker looks to shore up its CDMA market share and expand into the GSM arena.
