SEOUL, South Korea-Curitel Communications announced it will build CDMA mobile phones using Qualcomm Inc.’s BREWChat push-to-talk technology. Curitel joins Kyocera Wireless Corp. and others in building BREWChat-capable phones.
“Adding Qualcomm’s BREWChat technology to our handsets will create a strong competitive advantage for us, because our phones will now be able to offer wireless users access to this increasingly popular form of urgent communication,” said Dong Hyun Kim, vice president of product planning at Curitel. “We are looking forward to working with Qualcomm to port this technology to our handsets.”
Curitel builds mobile phones for a variety of brands, including Audiovox Communications Corp. and Pantech Co. Indeed, the company has announced a bid to purchase Audiovox. The company said it plans to become one of the world’s top six mobile handset manufacturers by producing 20 million handsets this year.
