WASHINGTON-Sen. Ron Wyden (D-Ore.) said he will block President Bush’s nomination of antitrust attorney Deborah Majoras to succeed Timothy Muris as chairman of the Federal Trade Commission.
Wyden made the decision after coming away from a meeting with Majoras dissatisfied with the nominee’s answers to questions about how she would address rising gasoline prices.
When contacted, Majoras declined to comment.
Muris plans to leave the FTC this summer to return to George Mason University as a law professor.
The FTC has oversight of various wireless consumer issues, including privacy, spam and telemarketing. The agency will hold a workshop June 21 on radio frequency identification technology, including privacy concerns that have been raised.
