New content provider enters wireless game

SK USA Inc., a division of South Korea’s technology conglomerate SK Group, announced the introduction of a new company that will focus specifically on the wireless content and entertainment marketplace. SK USA’s new SkyZone Entertainment will offer various applications, including wireless games, wallpapers and images.

“We are fortunate to derive a rich heritage and advanced market knowledge from our affiliate company, SK Telecom, a Korean-based world leader in mobile entertainment,” said Michael Lee, SkyZone’s chief executive officer. “Leveraging that legacy, we are able to continually launch new and imaginative products that delight consumers with a surge of amusement and pleasure to break up their day or fill short periods of boredom.”

In operation for more than a year, what is now SkyZone currently offers a range of wireless content in the United States. The company sells more than 17 mobile games and counts licensing agreements for the likes of Duke Nukem, Agent Cody Banks 2, T-Rexx Hunter and 3D Hunting: Trophy Whitetail. The company said it also plans to offer a new sports-themed game centered on a well-known Pro Bowl football star and another branded game with a boxing theme. The company said it expects to have more than 30 games available by year’s end.

“Mobile games and wallpaper are just the beginning for us,” Lee said. “We envision a wealth of possibilities for delivering entertainment to mobile devices. We call it ‘The New View of Entertainment,’ which at its heart means that mobile entertainment doesn’t have to be limited to games, wallpaper and ring tones. It can include Web portals, music and video clips as well as other innovative applications.”

SkyZone is one of a rapidly growing number of wireless gaming and content vendors in the United States.
