CARROLLTON, Texas-CellStar Corp. announced Midwest Wireless will be the first carrier to launch its PocketSurfer wireless Web viewer.
The device uses Bluetooth technology to connect wirelessly to a cellular handset for fast wireless access to the Internet. PocketSurfer features a full VGA-width, 640-pixel, color screen compared with 320 pixels on most personal digital assistants and 120 pixels on most wireless phones. CellStar said content downloading is as fast as seven seconds and even faster on next-generation networks.
Midwest Wireless plans to make the device available by the third quarter.
Offering the device is part of CellStar’s strategy to offer after-market products and services in its U.S. region, in addition to growing its distribution business, in an attempt to grow its margins here.
