SAN ANTONIO-SBC Communications Inc. has signed several deals in an effort to expand its FreedomLink Wi-Fi network coverage area.
The company will provide hot spots at 300 Caribou Coffee shops in Illinois, Ohio, Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Georgia, North Carolina, Virginia, Maryland and the District of Columbia, bringing the total number of FreedomLink hot spots to nearly 2,000. Monthly SBC FreedomLink memberships cost $20 for unlimited access to all FreedomLink hot spots, and daily sessions that offer 24 hours of unlimited access cost $8.
SBC also has formed reciprocal roaming agreements that will allow FreedomLink customers to roam onto Wi-Fi networks operated by Concourse Communications, Telmex and Wise Technologies at the reduced rate of $4 per daily session. SBC already had a similar agreement in place with Wayport Inc. SBC also signed in-bound roaming agreements with GoRemote, iPass and Syniverse Technologies.
“The agreement with Caribou Coffee further diversifies the type of locations where our service is available, and the roaming agreements help augment the extensive Wi-Fi deployment we’ve undertaken,” said Ray Wilkins, group president of SBC marketing and sales. “We believe that our extensive Wi-Fi footprint, our diversity of locations and our affordable pricing will make the FreedomLink service the most attractive Wi-Fi offering on the market.”
