LONDON-The buildout of third-generation wireless technologies are poised to transform the way enterprises do business, according to a new report from Frost & Sullivan. The analysis also indicates state-of-the-art communications systems must continue to evolve if businesses are truly going to capitalize on the growing opportunities presented by m-commerce.
“Enterprises today are seeing real benefits from the use of mobile devices and applications,” the Frost & Sullivan report states. “However, for m-commerce to grow significantly, a fully developed mobile communications network, ever more sophisticated devices and killer applications that enable ‘anytime, anywhere’ access of information is essential.”
The report warns of the proliferation of wireless local area networks (WLAN), which may hamper the adoption of 3G technology.
“…There is no denying that the world will still need 3G technology to fill in the extensive gaps that are likely between hot spots,” said research analyst Sathyaraj Radhakrishnan. “After all, no one is under the impression that the entire world will be covered by WLANs, 150 feet at a time.”
