BELLEVUE, Wash.-Flush from two recent successful rounds of funding, Mforma Group Inc. has acquired FingerTwitch, Inc., a San Francisco-based company that adapts games and other applications for wireless use.
The mobile entertainment company will use FingerTwitch technologies to develop applications across a broad range of handsets supported by both Java and BREW platforms.
“Mforma has worked with many of the leading porting and QA (quality assurance) houses in both the United States and Europe, and FingerTwitch has presented the most advanced and best-developed technology solution for porting mobile applications across handsets and platforms,” said John Brimacombe, Mforma president. “Now that our two companies have merged, we will be able to increase our output significantly across the full range of mobile devices.”
Mforma, which secured $44 million in investment capital earlier this year, also announced last week it had notched at least $19 million more in its most recent funding round. The company could increase the latest figure to $40 million based on its need for pending acquisitions, it said.
With Mforma’s deep pockets, the FingerTwitch acquisition is likely one of many to come.
“The market for interactive mobile media is accelerating,” Mforma Chief Executive Officer Daniel Kranzler said. “With Mforma now reaching over 500 million mobile users through more than 100 wireless operators, we are perfectly positioned to be the leader in market consolidation.”
Kranzler said the 3-year-old company will use the funds to continue its global expansion, particularly in Asia and Europe.
FingerTwitch CEO Jimmy Giliberti will head Mforma’s porting and quality assurance department, which will be based in San Francisco. Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.
