Optimus begins music-recognition service via Musiwave

PARIS-Portuguese mobile carrier Optimus has launched a music-recognition service from Musiwave. The service allows users to identify music via mobile phones.

Users are charged about 60 cents per song successfully recognized. The Music Wizard service relies on Philips fingerprinting technology and on CDDB, a music database worldwide built by Gracenote.

AT&T Wireless Services Inc. offers a similar service in the United States.
