Avocent buys Sonic Mobility for $8M

HUNTSVILLE, Ala.-Avocent Corp., maker of keyboard, video and mouse switching systems, has acquired software developer Sonic Mobility Inc. for $8 million cash.

The deal adds software products for secure wireless systems administration and mobile device management to Avocent’s portfolio, including Sonic’s flagship sonicadmin software.

Sonicadmin, which has been licensed by Microsoft Corp. for its Windows 2003 Mobile Admin Pack, allows administrators to perform routine server administrative functions from a mobile device.

Avocent was trading up at $29.06 per share following news of the acquisition.
