SUNNYVALE, Calif.-Sleepycat Software and MontaVista Software announced Sleepycat’s Berkeley DB software and MontaVista’s Linux operating system will be incorporated in Motorola’s A780 mobile phone, which was announced last month.
Berkeley DB efficiently and reliably manages data while MontaVista Linux enables a range of applications including Java-based solutions.
“We’re pleased to supply our software solutions to leading mobile-phone manufacturers-like Motorola-for the management of device applications including Java games, audio files and video clips,” said Rex Wang, vice president of marketing at Sleepycat Software. “Together, MontaVista Linux and Sleepycat’s Berkeley DB work ‘behind the screen’ to contribute to an enhanced mobile user experience.”
Motorola has included MontaVista Linux and Berkeley DB in the A760 and A790 handsets that were distributed in the Asian market.
The A780 EDGE device, due to hit the market in the fourth quarter, also features MOTOSYNC, Motorola’s new secure over-the-air synchronization solution for synching e-mail, calendar and contacts, personal digital assistant capabilities, a digital camera, video player, MP3 player, quad-band capabilities and Bluetooth technology.
