SAN FRANCISCO-Qualcomm Inc. announced it is offering advanced firmware over-the-air update capabilities via its BREW solution.
The new capabilities allow wireless operators and handset manufacturers to remotely reflash a BREW-enabled device’s firmware to repair software flaws or add new functions. The company is demonstrating the capabilities with Bitfone Corp. and Insignia Solutions on a Curitel CDM-8940 handset this week at the CTIA Wireless I.T. & Entertainment show in San Francisco.
The expanded firmware update delivery environment is available with the latest BREW Distribution System release, BDS 2004.
In related news, Qualcomm said third-party BREW publishers and developers have earned more than $200 million from sales of BREW-based applications to date. The figures were calculated based on payments made by Qualcomm and BREW operators to developers.
