LAGUNA NIGUEL, Calif.-Bitfone Corp., which sells over-the-air updating technology for mobile phones, announced it scored a deal to conduct a pilot project with European wireless carrier Orange. Under the agreement, Orange will test the company’s firmware OTA technology on its third-generation phones from Motorola Inc., LG Electronics Co. Ltd. and others.
“Bitfone’s FOTA technology is enabling us to improve the management of the Orange customer experience by reducing the need to manually repair or replace phones due to software issues,” said Thomas Kohler, vice president of new platform delivery at Orange. “We are pleased to work with Bitfone on the early stages of this project as they are considered to be experts in their field and so far, we have found them to be highly responsive to our needs.”
The wireless industry has rapidly embraced over-the-air updating technology as a way to bypass the need for hands-on repairs.<
