SINGAPORE-MobileOne, a Singaporean wireless carrier, said it will begin a one-month third-generation trial Thursday using data cards and involving mainly corporate customers.
A second-phase trial, involving 200 customer and corporate customers, will use 3G mobile phones in December.
M1 said its 3G network rollout is on track with the central business district and most populated parts of Singapore already covered. The carrier plans to commercially launch its 3G network in 2005.
“Being a nascent technology, it will certainly take some time for 3G to develop and to mature, and consumer expectations will have to be managed accordingly,” said Neil Montefiore, chief executive officer of M1. “The feedback from the trials will be extremely useful, and we hope to learn and to understand the user experience of our 3G trials.”
