SAN ANTONIO-Telecom company SBC Communications Inc. will offer Wi-Fi service at Barnes & Noble bookstores and Avis Rent-A-Car locations, the company said in separate announcements.
SBC’s FreedomLink hot spots have been established at 600 Barnes & Noble stores nationwide for SBC customers and will be available at up to 88 Avis sites at major airports early next year. FreedomLink is offered with one-year contracts for $20 per month; the company also offers one-day and two-hour access.
With the new partnerships, SBC increases its number of Wi-Fi hot spots to more than 5,000, the company said. SBC also holds a 60-percent stake in Cingular Wireless L.L.C.
