VANCOUVER, British Columbia-Sierra Wireless Inc. enjoyed both a boost in its stock price as well as the release of its Voq smart phone in Canada.
Sierra Wireless’ stock jumped from around $19 per share to $21 in trading Wednesday. In Thursday trading the company’s stock had stabilized to about $21.07 per share. According to reports, the jump in the company’s stock price followed an upgrade from a Canadian brokerage firm. The upgrade comes several days after a “neutral” rating on the stock from investment firm JP Morgan.
As for its smart-phone efforts, Sierra announced it will sell its Voq smart phone with Rogers Wireless airtime bundles through retailers Cellcom Wireless and Uptown Communication House Inc. The move is notable for Sierra, which has been working to expand its Voq distribution channels.
