MobiTV celebrates first birthday

BERKELY, Calif.-The nation’s first live mobile TV broadcaster celebrated its first birthday Thursday.

MobiTV, which recently reached an agreement with AT&T Wireless Services Inc., began delivering mobile content to Sprint PCS a year ago. Since its launch, the service has grown from eight to 23 channels and has increased its broadcast rate from one or two frames per second to as many as 10.

“‘We’ve enjoyed a tremendous first year, and it’s extremely gratifying to look back at the absolutely first-rate high-profile programming we’ve been able to offer our viewers in such a short time,” said Phillip Alvelda, chairman and chief executive officer of Idetic, Inc., MobiTV’s parent company. “But we have only just begun to define an industry that MobiTV has now brought to its tipping point.”
