Motorola claims PoC contract in Turkey

ISTANBUL, Turkey-Following a similar announcement from its rival Tuesday, Motorola Inc. Wednesday announced a contract to deliver Push to Talk over Cellular equipment to Turkcell, Turkey’s leading GSM operator. Motorola said Turkcell’s PoC service is available to subscribers using its V400p handsets.

“We predict the demand for PoC will grow as quickly as SMS and we want to be ready in time. As an operator we see PoC as an opportunity to expand services in the existing market,” said Muzaffer Akpinar, chief executive officer for Turkcell.

Yesterday, Nokia Corp. said Turkcell is using its PoC equipment for its commercial rollout following successful trials of the Nokia technology over recent months.

With Turkcell, Motorola said it has 23 contracts to supply PoC infrastructure solutions to customers operating in 27 countries and territories worldwide. Nokia said its PoC contracts number 22 and its ongoing trials number 30.
