MCLEAN, Va.-Primus Telecommunications Inc. said it will enter the U.S. mobile calling market with a service targeted at international callers.
The U.S. subsidiary of Virginia-based Primus Telecommunications Group said it will offer both per-minute and “bucket” plans for users who call Europe, Asia and South America. Primus Wireless also offers customers the option of adding a local phone number to their handsets from up to 16 foreign countries.
“At a time when the U.S. wireless market is experiencing explosive growth, our market research suggests that only 5 percent of international calls made from the U.S. are dialed directly from a wireless phone, primarily because of high per-minute charges,” said Jay Rosenblatt, president of Primus Wireless. “In creating Primus Wireless, we sought to provide a unique service that responds to the needs of an increasingly mobile and international population.”
