Valentine-themed messaging products abound as holiday approaches

LONDON-Wireless users both lovestruck and lonely can use their phones to find a soul mate or send text and animated messages to the objects of their affection this Valentine’s Day through several mobile services.

British animation company Mixipix announced an offering that allows users to choose from a catalog of cartoon messages or create greetings from scratch and send them to handsets. Mixipix launched the service last year, tailoring content around Halloween, Christmas and other seasonal themes.

Canadian users looking for love can join date and chat networks on their handsets with an application from Mobilehookup, a Toronto-based social messaging provider. From Friday, Feb. 11 through the following Monday, users can send a message to a short code to enter the company’s networks without charges except for normal carrier fees.

Finally, U.S. subscribers can send branded messages and images from Sweethearts candy. Thirteen heart-shaped images are offered though the service featuring messages like “Be Mine,” “Forever” and “Miss You.”

“It’s another fun, consumer-friendly way for us to strengthen our product portfolio and to better serve our wireless carrier partners,” said Adam Lavine, chief executive officer of FunMail, which is powering the service.
