SAN JOSE, Calif.-The WiMAX Forum expanded its board of directors to include AT&T Corp., BT and ZTE.
The forum now has 11 companies on its board, each of which appoints a senior-level executive as its representative. Christopher Rice, director of access technology and services, will represent AT&T. Mick Reeve, group technology officer, will represent BT. And Rajesh Bhalla, associate general manager of business development, will represent ZTE.
The group also created two new working groups. The Applications Working Group was formed to identify and develop requirements for high-demand applications that will differentiate WiMAX deployments from other technologies and drive consumer demand for broadband wireless services, said the group. The Network Working Group’s focus is on creating higher-level networking specifications for fixed, nomadic, portable and mobile WiMAX systems beyond what is defined in the IEEE 802.16 standard.
