4 carriers offer Yahoo! driving directions service

SUNNYVALE, Calif.-Yahoo! has quietly rolled out a service that allows users to send driving directions from computers to mobile phones.

After accessing directions through the Yahoo! Maps portal, a wireless subscriber can click on a link and enter a mobile phone number to send a text message of the directions to a handset. The new offering, which was launched three weeks ago, builds on Yahoo!’s existing “Send to Phone” feature for contact and local business information.

The service is free to subscribers of Cingular Wireless L.L.C., Sprint PCS, Nextel Communications Inc. and T-Mobile USA, although normal carrier charges may apply.
