Cingular reaches 50M customers

NEW ORLEANS-Cingular Wireless announced it now counts 50 million customers.

“Attaining 50 million customers is a key indicator that our merger with AT&T Wireless is working and working robustly,” said Stan Sigman, Cingular’s president and chief executive officer. “Fifty million customers, which is over 3 million more than we had as of Oct. 1 of last year, means that nearly three of every 10 current U.S. wireless subscribers are now Cingular customers. Yet we strive to treat each and every one of our customers as an individual person or business.”

Meanwhile, Deutsche Bank Securities reiterated its “hold” ratings on parents BellSouth and SBC Communications, saying the growing customer base of the companies’ Cingular venture is encouraging, but declining ARPU and margins remain concerns.
