CHILLICOTHE, Ohio-Sprint Corp. provided its consent for the proposed merger of network affiliates Horizon PCS Inc. into iPCS Inc. Sprint’s consent was one of the conditions required for the closing of the proposed merger that was originally announced last month.
If completed, the merged operations will become Sprint’s second-largest affiliate with 11.2 million covered potential customers and will serve more than 432,000 subscribers.
Sprint had previously approved the acquisition of former affiliate AirGate PCS Inc. by Alamosa Holdings Inc., which is currently Sprint’s largest affiliate with nearly 1.4 million subscribers. iPCS was formally an unrestricted subsidiary of AirGate PCS before being spun off after iPCS filed for Chapter 11-bankruptcy protection in early 2003.
