STOCKHOLM, Sweden-Motorola launched a real-time multiplayer gaming service allowing users to interact with each other on the Internet and mobile devices.
The service, which is powered by technology provider Terraplay Systems, includes such community-based features as leagues, tournaments and in-game chats. Motorola has launched the offering for U.K. users on its consumer-facing Web site, hellomoto.com, and will deploy it to other markets later this year. The handset manufacturer also hopes to make the service available through wireless carriers.
Publishers Digital Chocolate and Mobile Interaction will be among those providing games for the offering, which is targeted at 2.5- and third-generation users.
“Motorola believes immersive human-to-human applications will be key drivers for growth in the mobile industry, and we are very pleased to be offering such exciting multiplayer games to our customers,” said Ronan Smyth, a Motorola applications manager.
