CEOs of upcoming companies cite growth concerns, wireless potential

SAN JOSE, Calif.-Growth is a major concern this year for the chief executive officers of the world’s fastest-growing technology companies, according to the latest findings of Deloitte’s Technology Fast 500 survey.

About 75 percent of the CEOs surveyed during the first quarter said they are confident or extremely confident about continuing their companies’ current growth rates.

The biggest challenge to this anticipated growth is hiring and retraining qualified employees, said the report.

The survey also asked which technologies have the greatest potential for growth in the short-term and in the long-term. Internet and IP-based applications ranked at the top of both lists, with wireless communications ranking second, except for in Asia-Pacific, where wireless tied for first.

“CEOs are more confident about their company’s prospects than they have been in recent years and are aggressively pursuing new growth opportunities,” said Tony Kern, deputy national managing principal of Deloitte’s U.S. Technology, Media & Telecommunications industry practice. “Sixty percent of respondents are committed to the idea of growing organically, rather than through acquisition; this rational approach seems to indicate that this is not a return to dot-com fever.”
