Vodafone Hungary contracts Nokia, Siemens for W-CDMA network

ESPOO, Finland-Vodafone Hungary has selected Nokia Corp. and Siemens AG to supply its W-CDMA network.

Nokia said it will supply a complete W-CDMA core network, providing its 3GPP Release 4 based MSC Server System, including the Nokia MSC Server and Nokia Multimedia Gateway, and Nokia packet core network equipment for third-generation service. In addition to the core network equipment, Nokia is providing related delivery and care services such as installation, commissioning, and integration.

Nokia said it has been Vodafone Hungary’s sole supplier of GSM network equipment since it began its network in 1999.

Siemens said it will also supply W-CDMA network equipment to the Hungarian carrier. Siemens will deliver and install all necessary W-CDMA radio equipment for the project.

Neither Nokia nor Siemens released the values of the contracts.

Vodafone Hungary is the smallest of three carriers in Hungary, according to data from the RCR Wireless News Worldwide Carrier Chart, with more than 1.5 million subscribers.
