Movida expands Hispanic-oriented content

MIAMI-Hispanic-targeted prepaid service Movida said it will launch a suite of information services next month.

The 6-month-old service said it will offer regional news programming, Latin American soccer scores, celebrity news and Hispanic daytime TV plot summaries beginning in September. Movida, which offers service in San Diego, Phoenix and several Texas markets, is sold through Wal-Mart Stores Inc. outlets and uses Sprint PCS’ network.

The company also said it plans to expand to new markets and offer new handsets.

“We continue to be pleased with Movida’s progress and gratified at the enthusiastic response of Hispanic consumers in our launch markets,” said Enrique Garcia, chairman of Movida.
