Sprint Nextel Corp. unveiled a location-based offering that allows businesses to track fleets and monitor workers in the field.
The newly merged carrier launched Sprint Precision Locator, a Web-based application that delivers interactive maps, schedule information and workforce location history. The service includes up to 50 application-to-worker text messages per month and can determine whether devices have been turned off.
Location-based application developer WaveMarket partnered with Sprint Nextel for the offering, which also uses Microsoft MapPoint Web Service, an open-standard, location-based development platform.
“As an easy and inexpensive solution to purchase and implement, businesses can immediately realize the enhanced efficiencies of tracking, directing and messaging with mobile workers,” said Vicki Warker, vice president of marketing and products for Sprint Business Solutions.
