SCHAUMBURG, Ill.-Motorola Inc. said it would score an after-tax gain of $780 million in the third quarter thanks to the sale of its Nextel Communications Inc. stock following Sprint Corp.’s acquisition of the carrier. Motorola said it received 69.3 million shares of the newly combined carrier and $46.3 million in cash in exchange for its 54.7 million shares in Nextel.
Motorola’s stock was up slightly after the news to about $20.85 per share. The company previously said it would score $4.4 billion in accumulated earnings in the third and fourth quarters due to a federal tax incentive.
