RARITAN, N.J.-Wireless data and content delivery will account for as much as 25 percent of overall wireless revenues in five years, generating $50 billion annually, according to a report from the Pelorus Group.
The market research firm said mobile Web browsing and Internet connectivity services will explode from a $1 billion industry this year to a $15.3 billion global market in 2010. Operators looking to cash in on the market should segment markets with a variety of phones and services, Pelorus said, and should make accessing Web-based content simpler for consumers. The company also urged operators to simplify pricing structures for wireless data usage.
“While the early focus has been on the younger population, Pelorus expects wireless carriers to create mobile content services aimed at professional, special interest and other interest groups,” the company said in a prepared statement.
