CASTRIES, St. Lucia-Caribbean mobile-phone operator Digicel Group said the government of St. Lucia has approved its acquisition of Cingular Wireless L.L.C.’s operation on the island, which is home to about 166,000 people.
Digicel, a GSM carrier, has plans to acquire Cingular’s operations in Bermuda and the Caribbean as well as part of its vision to establish a seamless pan-Caribbean wireless network. The company has operations in Aruba, Barbados, the Cayman Islands, Curacao, Grenada, Haiti, Jamaica, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines and Trinidad and Tobago.
